Glasses Made Here

one of a kind

every piece featured here is the only one of its kind that I will ever make.

how do you make glasses?

Design

Every pair starts with a notion. Some general vibe that the shape must express. Sometimes this is verbalized in a word map, a haiku, or a dirty limerick. The shape evolves naturally from this, and must then evolve amongst other desired criteria:

an overall fit, or sizing and geometric parameters driven by the desired wearer's anthropometric data.

prescription lens parameters, including thickness driven both by sphere and cylinder power, so that the edges of the lens are perfectly hidden.

structural principles that resist torsion atypical of normal use; so when you sit on your glasses like an asshole, they're less likely to explode.

Fabrication

The generated model of the frame moves over to my CNC, where the raw shape of the front and temples are carved. Many people assume that the work stops here, and that the CNC makes the final frame. I cannot afford such advanced robot slaves, so I am forced to perform tremendous hand finishing, such as:

sculpting nosepads, to create a convex surface to properly distribute the weight of the frame against the skin of the nose.

refining the sculpt of the frame and removing milling marks left behind by the underperforming robot slave.

manually thermoforming the frame to accomodate the curve of the lens and the arc of the bridge.

do you make custom frames?

all my frames are custom

Every frame I make is the only one of its kind that I will ever make, and I love putting custom pieces all over your face. There's just a few steps involved:

every pair starts with a dialogue between you and I, to collect all the information necessary to craft your perfect frame.

once the design is finalized, I get to work on fabrication, pouring my blood, sweat, and tears into a plastic thing you put on your face.

the final pair is rushed out to you with every due haste, but my average turn around is 2-3 weeks.
